Hunting Missions

The Hunting Missions system provides players with randomly generated hunting assignments, exploration objectives, research operations, and treasure-hunting adventures.

Each mission assigns four random monster targets. Players must defeat the required number of each monster and complete any additional objectives before returning to the Hunting Missions NPC.

NPC Location

The Hunting Missions NPC is located in:

Prontera: 147, 168

Speak with the NPC to:

  • Accept a new mission
  • Check current mission progress
  • Abandon an active mission
  • Read system information
  • Access the Mission Shop
  • View the Top Hunters ranking

Quick Start Guide

  1. Visit the Hunting Missions NPC at Prontera (147,168).
  2. Select New Mission.
  3. The system automatically selects your difficulty tier.
  4. Check the four assigned monsters and required kill count.
  5. Use @mission to view your objectives and possible monster locations.
  6. Complete all hunting and special-operation objectives.
  7. Return to the NPC and select Mission Status.
  8. Receive Mission Points, Base EXP, Job EXP, and Zeny.
  9. Wait for the account-wide mission delay before accepting another mission.

Mission Difficulty Tiers

Mission difficulty is automatically selected according to the character's Base Level and Job Level.

Players cannot manually choose a lower or higher tier.

Tier Name Character Requirement Kills Required Per Monster Time Limit
1 Rookie Below Base Level 100 Random 20 to 30 No time limit
2 Veteran Base Level 100 to 199 Random 30 to 50 12 hours
3 Elite Base Level 200 to 259 Random 40 to 60 12 hours
4 Master Base Level 260 or higher Random 50 to 90 12 hours
5 Apex Base Level 275 and Job Level 60 Random 60 to 160 12 hours

Important: Apex difficulty requires both Base Level 275 and Job Level 60. A Base Level 275 character who has not reached Job Level 60 remains in the Master tier.

Random Monster Objectives

Every mission assigns:

  • 4 different monster targets
  • One shared random kill requirement
  • Monster targets appropriate to the selected difficulty tier
  • Non-boss monsters that provide Base and Job EXP
  • Monsters from accessible and approved spawn pools

The same required quantity applies to all four assigned monsters.

For example, if the mission requires 45 eliminations:

Monster A: 0/45
Monster B: 0/45
Monster C: 0/45
Monster D: 0/45

All four objectives must reach 45/45 before the hunting portion is complete.

MVP objectives are disabled. The system will not intentionally assign an MVP as a required mission objective.

Mission Operation Types

Each new mission randomly selects one of three operation types.

Operation Selection Chance Main Requirements Mission Point Bonus
Standard Hunt 40% Complete all four monster objectives No operation bonus
Field Operation 35% Complete all hunts, collect virtual samples, and survey two landmarks +6 points before final reward balancing
Treasure Hunt Operation 25% Complete all hunts, find a clue, and recover an expedition cache +8 points before final reward balancing

The operation type is selected randomly whenever a new mission is accepted.

Standard Hunt

A Standard Hunt is the simplest mission type.

Players only need to:

  1. Find the four assigned monsters.
  2. Defeat the required quantity of every monster.
  3. Return to the Hunting Missions NPC.
  4. Claim the mission rewards.

There are no landmark, research sample, or treasure cache objectives during a Standard Hunt.

Field Operation

A Field Operation combines monster hunting with research and exploration.

To complete a Field Operation, players must:

  1. Defeat the required number of all four assigned monsters.
  2. Recover the required number of virtual Research Samples.
  3. Survey two randomly selected landmarks.
  4. Return to the Hunting Missions NPC.

Research Samples

Research Samples may be recovered when defeating any assigned mission monster.

These samples are virtual mission progress:

  • They do not enter the player's inventory.
  • They cannot be traded.
  • They cannot be stored.
  • They cannot be dropped.
  • They do not require an item database entry.
  • Collection stops automatically when the required amount is reached.

The required sample quantity depends on the mission tier.

Tier Difficulty Samples Required Chance Per Assigned Monster Kill
1 Rookie 5 35%
2 Veteran 8 30%
3 Elite 12 25%
4 Master 16 22%
5 Apex 20 20%

A recovered sample will display a message similar to:

[Hunting Missions] Research Sample recovered (6/12).

Once the required quantity is reached, additional samples will no longer be collected.

Field Operation Landmarks

Each Field Operation randomly selects two different landmarks from the following locations:

Landmark Map Coordinates
Prontera Expedition Bell prontera ?
Geffen Arcane Marker geffen ?
Payon Forest Shrine payon ?
Alberta Harbor Beacon alberta ?

Players only need to walk close to the assigned location. The hidden survey marker will automatically record the landmark.

A successful survey displays a message such as:

[Hunting Missions] Payon Forest Shrine surveyed.

Only the two landmarks assigned to the active mission will respond. Unassigned landmarks will not activate.

Treasure Hunt Operation

A Treasure Hunt Operation combines hunting with a two-stage exploration route.

Players must:

  1. Complete all four monster objectives.
  2. Travel to the assigned clue location.
  3. Walk near the hidden clue marker.
  4. Read the discovered clue.
  5. Travel to the corresponding expedition cache.
  6. Recover the cache.
  7. Return to the Hunting Missions NPC.

The system randomly selects one of four treasure routes.

Treasure Route 1

First clue:

Morocc: 160, 100

After discovering the clue, travel to:

Payon: 115, 85

Treasure Route 2

First clue:

Al De Baran: 140, 125

After discovering the clue, travel to:

Geffen: 105, 115

Treasure Route 3

First clue:

Izlude: 130, 100

After discovering the clue, travel to:

Alberta: 135, 75

Treasure Route 4

First clue:

Comodo: 190, 160

After discovering the clue, travel to:

Prontera: 170, 205

Treasure Hunt Progress

Treasure Hunt progress has three stages:

Stage Status Requirement
0 Clue not found Visit the assigned clue marker
1 Clue found Visit the corresponding expedition cache
2 Cache recovered Complete the monster hunts and report to the NPC

The expedition cache is virtual mission progress. It does not provide a physical item and does not require changes to the item, monster, quest, drop, or barter databases.

The cache cannot be recovered before the correct clue has been found.

Using the @mission Command

All players may use:

@mission

The command displays:

  • Current Mission Points
  • Total missions completed
  • Required kills per monster
  • Assigned monster names
  • Monster IDs
  • Current kill progress
  • Possible monster spawn maps
  • Nearby matching monster information
  • Remaining mission time
  • Death count
  • Current mission streak
  • Field Operation sample progress
  • Required exploration landmarks
  • Treasure Hunt clue or cache information

When checking a monster objective, the system also runs location and monster-search commands to help players find the assigned target.

If the player has no active mission, the command displays:

[Hunting Missions] You do not have an active hunting mission.
[Hunting Missions] Speak with the Hunting Missions NPC in Prontera (147,168).

Story Episode Progression

Episode monsters are unlocked progressively according to each player's story completion.

The monster pools unlock in the following order:

  1. Episode 16
  2. Episode 17
  3. Episode 18
  4. Episode 19

Later Episode pools cannot unlock before the earlier Episode requirements have been satisfied.

A player may unlock a story pool through normal Episode completion or an appropriate server Clear Ticket variable.

Episode 16 Pool

Episode 16 monsters become eligible after Episode 16 has been completed or its corresponding Clear Ticket has been registered.

Episode 17 Pool

Episode 17 monsters become eligible only after:

  • Episode 16 is unlocked, and
  • Episode 17 has been completed or cleared.

Episode 18 Pool

Episode 18 monsters become eligible only after:

  • Episode 16 is unlocked,
  • Episode 17 is unlocked, and
  • Episode 18 has been completed or cleared.

Episode 19 Pool

Episode 19 monsters become eligible after the player has unlocked the previous Episode progression through Episode 18.

The mission status may display the highest unlocked story pool represented by the current monster objectives.

For example:

Story pool: Episode 19 unlocked mission

Successfully reaching an Episode area may still depend on the server's normal story, map-access, and Episode-entry requirements.

Story Progression Point Bonuses

Missions containing monsters from later Episode pools receive additional Mission Points before the final server reward adjustment.

Highest Episode Pool in Mission Point Bonus
Episode 16 +2
Episode 17 +4
Episode 18 +6
Episode 19 +8

Only the highest applicable Episode bonus is used. These bonuses are not added together.

Party Kill Credit

The Hunting Missions system supports party kill credit.

A party member receives mission credit only when all required conditions are satisfied:

  • The party member is online.
  • The party member has an active mission containing the defeated monster.
  • The party member is alive.
  • The party member is on the same map.
  • The party member is within approximately 30 cells of the defeated monster.
  • The party member has not already completed that monster objective.

Every eligible nearby party member is checked individually.

Party members who are too far away, on another map, offline, dead, or assigned to different monsters will not receive credit.

The system also protects against duplicate credit when a monster uses a special OnKill relay.

Mission Deaths and Flawless Bonus

Every character death during an active mission increases the mission's death counter.

The first recorded death removes the Flawless Bonus for that mission.

If no deaths are recorded when the mission is completed, the player receives:

  • 20% additional Base EXP
  • 20% additional Job EXP
  • 20% additional Zeny
  • Additional Mission Points equal to 3 plus the mission tier

Example:

Tier 3 flawless point bonus:
3 + 3 = 6 additional points

After a death, the mission remains active. Only the Flawless Bonus is lost.

Mission Streak

Completing missions consecutively increases the account's mission streak.

The streak provides up to:

+10 Mission Points before final reward balancing

The streak bonus increases by one for each completed mission until it reaches the maximum effective bonus.

The streak resets when:

  • A mission expires
  • The player abandons an active mission

Spending Mission Points does not affect the streak.

Mission Rewards

After completing every required objective, return to the Hunting Missions NPC and select Mission Status to claim the reward.

Possible rewards include:

  • Mission Points
  • Base Experience
  • Job Experience
  • Zeny
  • Streak bonus
  • Flawless completion bonus
  • Story progression bonus
  • Field Operation bonus
  • Treasure Hunt bonus

Rewards vary according to:

  • Mission tier
  • Assigned monster levels
  • Assigned monster EXP values
  • Required kill count
  • Current mission streak
  • Whether the mission was completed without dying
  • Highest Episode pool represented
  • Special operation type

Therefore, two missions of the same tier may provide different rewards.

Server Reward Balancing

The displayed final rewards use the following server balance:

  • Mission Points are reduced to 50% of their calculated amount.
  • Base EXP is reduced to 10% of its calculated amount.
  • Job EXP is reduced to 10% of its calculated amount.
  • Zeny is reduced to 50% of its calculated amount.
  • Zeny is capped at 10,000,000 per completed mission.
  • Every successful mission awards at least 1 Mission Point.
  • Normal non-capped reward values have a minimum result of 1.

Operation, story, streak, and flawless bonuses are calculated before the final server balancing is applied.

Level-Cap Reward Protection

Experience rewards stop independently when the corresponding level cap has been reached.

Character Status Reward Result
Base Level below 275 Base EXP may be awarded
Base Level 275 Base EXP reward becomes 0
Job Level below 60 Job EXP may be awarded
Job Level 60 Job EXP reward becomes 0

For example, a character at Base Level 275 but below Job Level 60 may still receive Job EXP, but will not receive Base EXP.

Mission Points and Zeny may still be awarded at the level caps.

Mission Points

Mission Points are an account-wide currency.

This means:

  • All characters on the same account share the same Mission Point balance.
  • Points earned on one character can be spent using another character.
  • The mission delay is also shared across the account.
  • Only one character on the account may hold an active mission at a time.

The NPC displays the current Mission Point balance when spoken to.

Mission Shop

Mission Points may be spent through the Mission Shop option at the Hunting Missions NPC.

The shop contains selected server reward items, including categories such as:

  • Booster boxes
  • Upgrade materials
  • Special equipment
  • Shadow equipment
  • Mammoth Shadow items

Each item has its own Mission Point price.

The shop validates:

  • Whether the selected item belongs to the Mission Shop
  • Whether the selected quantity is valid
  • Whether the account has enough Mission Points
  • The total price of the purchase

After a successful purchase, the player is shown:

  • Items purchased
  • Points used
  • Remaining Mission Point balance

Current Points and Lifetime Points

The system records two different point values.

Current Mission Points

Current Mission Points are spendable.

Purchasing an item reduces the current Mission Point balance.

Lifetime Mission Points

Lifetime Mission Points represent the total amount earned by the account.

Spending points in the Mission Shop does not reduce the lifetime total.

The Top Hunters ranking uses lifetime Mission Points rather than the current spendable balance.

Top Hunters Ranking

Players may select View Top Hunters at the NPC.

The ranking displays the top 10 accounts according to lifetime Mission Points earned.

The leaderboard is not reduced when a player purchases items from the Mission Shop.

For display purposes, the system uses a character name associated with the ranked account.

Mission Time Limit

Rookie missions have no expiration timer.

Veteran, Elite, Master, and Apex missions have a 12-hour time limit.

If a timed mission expires:

  • The mission fails.
  • All monster progress is removed.
  • Research Sample progress is removed.
  • Survey progress is removed.
  • Treasure Hunt progress is removed.
  • The active mission is cleared.
  • The mission streak resets to zero.

The expiration is checked when the player interacts with the system or receives relevant mission updates.

Mission Delay

After completing or abandoning a mission, the account must wait before accepting another mission.

The default delay is:

15 minutes

The delay is shared across all characters on the same account.

Authorized Game Masters may change the global mission delay to:

  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 60 minutes

The selected global value applies when a new delay is created.

Changing the global setting does not necessarily replace a delay that has already been stored on an account.

Abandoning a Mission

Players may abandon an active mission through the NPC.

With the current configuration:

  • Abandoning does not require a Zeny payment.
  • The normal mission delay is applied.
  • All monster progress is deleted.
  • Field Operation progress is deleted.
  • Treasure Hunt progress is deleted.
  • The mission streak resets to zero.

Abandoned missions cannot be restored.

Account-Wide Mission Restriction

Only one character per account may hold an active Hunting Mission.

If another character on the same account already has a mission, the NPC will prevent a second mission from being accepted.

If the character holding the mission was deleted, the system checks the character records and may clear the orphaned mission restriction.

Finding Assigned Monsters

Use:

@mission

The command displays the assigned monster's:

  • Name
  • Monster ID
  • Kill progress
  • Normal spawn-map information
  • Matching monsters found through server search commands

Some monsters may exist on several maps. Choose an accessible normal field or dungeon suitable for your character.

Certain monsters that exist only on inaccessible maps are excluded from random mission selection.

Examples of excluded inaccessible-map targets include monsters unique to:

  • prt_prison
  • prt_q

Monsters that also spawn on other accessible maps may remain available.

Illusion and Special Map Support

The system includes kill-credit support for several permanent-spawn and Illusion monsters, including groups associated with:

  • Abyss Turtle Island
  • Illusion of Vampire
  • Illusion of Moonlight
  • Illusion of Frozen
  • Illusion of Teddy Bear

These special relays allow eligible kills to update Hunting Mission progress while preventing the same defeated monster from being counted twice.

Issgard Mission Support

Eligible Issgard monsters may be selected when the character has unlocked the appropriate story pool.

Supported Issgard-related hunting maps include:

  • jor_ab01
  • jor_ab02
  • jor_dun01
  • jor_dun02

Being assigned an Issgard monster does not automatically bypass normal Episode progression or map-entry requirements.

Database Requirements

The random monster selection requires the server's SQL monster database.

However, the Field Operation and Treasure Hunt objectives do not require additional entries in:

  • item_db
  • mob_db
  • drop databases
  • barter_db.yml
  • quest_db
  • SQL schema

Research Samples, survey landmarks, clues, and expedition caches are handled as virtual script progress.

Important Notes

  • Each mission assigns four monster targets.
  • The required kill quantity is shared by all four targets.
  • Difficulty is automatically selected according to character level.
  • Apex requires Base Level 275 and Job Level 60.
  • MVP objectives are disabled.
  • Only one active mission is allowed per account.
  • Mission Points and delays are account-wide.
  • Mission progress belongs to the character that accepted the mission.
  • Timed missions expire after 12 hours.
  • Rookie missions have no time limit.
  • Death does not fail the mission, but removes the Flawless Bonus.
  • Field Operations require samples and two landmarks.
  • Treasure Hunts require one clue and one corresponding cache.
  • Virtual mission objectives do not consume inventory space.
  • Party credit requires eligible members to remain nearby.
  • Spending Mission Points does not reduce leaderboard progress.
  • Zeny rewards are capped at 10,000,000 per mission.
  • Base and Job EXP stop independently at their respective level caps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can I not accept another mission on a different character?

Only one character per account may have an active Hunting Mission.

Why did my kill not count?

Possible reasons include:

  • The monster is not one of your assigned targets.
  • The objective has already reached the required count.
  • Your mission has expired.
  • You are not close enough to the party member who defeated it.
  • You are on a different map.
  • Your character was dead when the monster was defeated.
  • The monster has a similar name but a different monster ID.

Use @mission to verify the exact monster ID.

Why did I not receive a Research Sample?

Research Samples are chance-based. They are not guaranteed from every assigned monster kill.

Sample collection also stops after the required quantity has been reached.

Where are my Research Samples?

Research Samples are virtual mission progress. They do not appear in inventory.

Why does the landmark not activate?

Only the two landmarks assigned to the current Field Operation will activate. Walk close to the exact coordinates shown by @mission.

Why does the treasure cache not activate?

You must first discover the correct clue for your assigned route. A cache cannot be recovered before its clue has been activated.

Do I receive an item from the expedition cache?

No. Recovering the expedition cache completes a virtual mission objective and contributes to mission completion.

Does abandoning a mission preserve my progress?

No. All progress is permanently cleared, the streak is reset, and the normal account mission delay is applied.

Does dying fail the mission?

No. Death increases the death counter and removes the Flawless Bonus, but the mission may still be completed before the timer expires.

Why did I receive no Base EXP or Job EXP?

Base EXP is not awarded at Base Level 275. Job EXP is not awarded at Job Level 60. These restrictions are applied independently.

Are Mission Points shared between characters?

Yes. Current Mission Points, lifetime Mission Points, and mission delay information are shared across the account.

Does buying an item reduce my Top Hunters rank?

No. The ranking uses lifetime Mission Points earned, not the remaining spendable balance.
